Serial Podcast

At 9 minutes in we can identify background music starting to play, this music doesn’t make us lose concentration is actually makes us more concentrated into the podcast. Whilst she starts to talk about the different witness of the murder that when we hear the background music this is could probably have a purpose of making us listen even more for small details, the sound of the strings of a guitar playing could suggest that the story coming is a bad one or sad one, most of the instruments used were pianos or guitar to cause a sad atmosphere, when good news came happy music was used straight away. The dialogue is very important as we have the ability to be Informed, without the dialogue the podcast would be nothing just background music that has no meaning or purpose however with the informative dialogue we are able to learn what happen leading to the day of the murder. At exactly 5 minutes the narrator goes silent for a good 5 seconds and the background music gets louder whilst the narrator has paused. couple seconds later the silence form the narrator Is broken and the music is lowered and she speaks again. At 2 Minutes and 33 seconds we hear some unpleasant noise due to the microphone being to close to the teenagers mouth, this is where you can hear a loud noise which is unintentionally done. however this is neither the audio files fault or the editors as it is the original recording document. At 2 minutes and 22 second we hear our first interview that is between the narrator and two teenagers, the interview was a social experiment as they wanted to find out if a normal teenager could remember what he did 6 whole weeks ago. Most teenagers could not remember anything they did 6 weeks ago. The 2nd interview at 2 minutes and 46 seconds was another interview of another teenager who stated the same thing at the to others “Probably in school, can’t remember a thing”. At 2 minutes and 43 seconds we hear our first phone conversation which is between the narrator and a teenager, in the podcast we hear many phone-ins however this is the first one to be heard in the podcast. 7 minutes in and we can hear a voice over where the narrator is talking without any interruptions, a voice of a young man is being heard in the distance it is pretty hard to make out what he is saying but it is defiantly a message and a clue as he is talking about the topic. another example of this would be at 25.44 seconds where we hear another interview and this time we can hear a lot of voice over and background noise from other people.

  1. You do identify some sound features. You could use more technical language, although you do apply some media terminology. You give some examples from the podcast. Vanessa
